While the whole industry is trying to get their heads around AI generated visuals, their potential and limitations, new AI text-to-video technology has once again opened up a vast range of opportunities. But for most creators, when trying out the recently released Runway Gen 2, initial enthusiasm made way for the realisation that perfect text-to-video results are still far from perfect.
‘As in so many cases, being presented with limitations brings out the most interesting creative solutions’, says Maria Leon, director of the campaign. ‘While generating visuals for another project, the frustration of getting imperfect, glitchy videos suddenly made us realise the potential for a topic we’ve been wanting to make a film for for a long time: the almost unimaginable horrors animals have to go through in test labs.
The series consists of three films, each depicting a different species widely used for animal testing. Hundreds of text-to-video clips were AI generated per video, making them able to select the most usable clips in crafting the online campaign.
